5/23 Update

What’s up, y’all? I hope you all are doing well. Just wanted to say hello and give an update on what I’ve been up to.

Work has been extremely busy. I just finished building out a deployment system that would mass image a large amount of computers with Windows 10. I’ve never done that before and it was intimidating, but I got it done and the deployment system appears to be working well.

Due to work priorities, I haven’t been studying for any certs, specifically the MCSA Server 2016 exam. To be honest, I got overwhelmed with work responsibilities and studying. Studying also led me to asking a simple question that wasn’t easy to answer: Why? Then I had to ask myself if I really wanted to study for the MCSA or get back on the Cisco route? I bounced between the two, got overwhelmed and immediately stopped studying after that. I got burned out. I realized that the question I asked myself 7 years ago was still unanswered:

What do you want to specialize in?

I told myself that I would not pick up any certification material until I figured this out. How can I get ready for something I wasn’t sure of? I knew I wanted to move forward with my career, but wasn’t sure which direction to go. I was stuck between my two areas of interests: Systems and Networking.

After a month of not doing any serious studying, I figured it out. Sometimes you have to step away and take yourself out of the situation in order to see the whole picture. My next post I will talk more about finding your specialty and tips on how to get there.

See y’all in the next post!
